About Bonnie Brae

Now in its 10th decade of operation, Bonnie Brae is a residential treatment and special education center for emotionally disturbed boys, ages 8 - 18.

Located on 100 acres of land in Bernards Township, New Jersey Bonnie Brae has instrumentally helped and changed the lives of more that 4,300 young men. The agency provides a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment where troubled boys can develop trust, maximize personal and social potential, and build lives as good citizens - productive in their communities and families.

Many come from shattered homes or from families torn apart by poverty, homelessness, alcoholism, drug abuse, and sometimes by physical and sexual abuse. Most boys are referred to Bonnie Brae by The New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) after spending time in juvenile shelters, foster homes, psychiatric hospitals, or after exhausting the resource of their families and communities. Boys remain at Bonnie Brae in residential treatment for approximately eighteen to twenty-four months.

Each June several Bonnie Brae boys graduate and receive diplomas. We are proud of the accomplishments of many of our boys who have not only changed their self-defeating and destructive habits but have gone on to college. Many are earning a living in various skilled occupations, including careers as police officers, computer technicians, auto mechanics, corporate executives and entrepreneurs.

More than fifty people volunteer their time and talents at Bonnie Brae in various areas and many capacities. If you are interested in learning more about our volunteer opportunities, please call the Development Office at (908) 647-4700.
Volunteers do not work directly with the boys.
